“Strawberry Beds”

Bloom in the Park

Commissioned by Bord Bia, Realise Landscapes designed and managed the build of our first show garden where we were awarded a silver medal.

From as far back as the 18th century, the Strawberry beds, extending on both sides of the Liffey from Chapelizod to Lucan, is a site where strawberries were cultivated for the capital until the development of the rail network. Honeymooners used to travel by horse and cart, stopping by the numerous shebeens along the way to savour the tastes of exotic fruits.

The garden connects the present to the past creating an intimate meeting place enclosed by banks of granite and weathered steel. Climbing Rosa Pierre de Ronsard and Trachelospermum jasminoides act as a pretty backdrop for the shallow flowing rill running under an ancient bed frame creating a fairytale-esque atmosphere.
