Cortober Riverside Park
Roscommon Co.Council
Known locally as ‘Tearmann’ or Sanctuary, the masterplan for the Riverfront park was designed and detailed by Maeve while working with Murray and Associate landscape Architects.
Located to the south west of Carrick on Shannon, in Co. Roscommon and bound to the east by the River Shannon. The flow of the Shannon drew the path network to the river edge enhancing pedestrian engagement with the river.
The mature existing Horse Chestnut trees located along the western boundary of the site were retained, with crowns lifted to allow greater connection and visibility into the site.
The sloping terrain influenced the spatial configuration, we used stone retaining walls with planting to create a series of focal points within the site. The improved amenity space provided for new railings on the river edge, a children's play area, a large open space, and several seating areas encouraging a greater diversity of users and functionality.
